What better way to shake up your fitness routine this fall then to incorporate some of the Toronto Argonauts’ favourite drills into your weekly routine.
With playoffs in full force, former Toronto Argonaut turned trainer Joe Eppele shared three quick drills that anyone can pull off at home.
Round 1: Speed Ladder.
Starting at the top of the ladder, holding a ball, move through the ladder with something Chad Kackert, 100th Grey Cup MVP, likes to call “the icky shake”;. Despite not really understanding why people think it’s “icky”;, Chad explains the drill as a three count – two feet in, one out.
Continue stepping in and out of the ladder for the duration, making “sure to keep that point high on the ball.”;
Round 2: Duck Walk
How do you win the leverage game when you’re on the line? By practicing your duck walk! Keeping your hips nice and low, “take big heavy steps,”; Eppele says adding “six inch steps every time you step.”; The drill works a little like a game of Simon Says, whereby someone directs you with the ball to move forward, backwards, side to side.
Round 3: Running Drills
Just in case you were missing out on handling the ball while making a play, we’ve got you covered. Starting with your left foot forward, sprint off the line, make a break with your right foot at the first cone, left foot outside the next cone, right foot for the next and then break on an angle and remember to look for the ball!
