Andrew Lincoln To Exit ‘The Walking Dead’, Norman Reedus To Take The Lead In Season 10

No one is ever safe on “The Walking Dead”, including Rick Grimes.

Andrew Lincoln, who has led the popular zombie series since the first episode, will exit the series in season 9 according to Collider.

“The Walking Dead” will reportedly shift focus onto Norman Reedus’ fan-favourite character Daryl Dixon for season 10. According to reports, Reedus has allegedly negotiated a $20 million payday to stay on the series through season 10.

Details surrounding Lincoln’s departure and what it means for Grimes are being kept under wraps, but the actor has reportedly signed on to appear in the first six episodes of season 9.

The AMC series has veered off from the original comic books on which the series is based. In them, Grimes is still alive as is his son, Carl Grimes, who was killed off last season when actor Chandler Riggs left the long-running show.

AMC has not commented on Lincoln’s departure.

With season 8 wrapping production in April, season 9 is now in production in Georgia with returning cast members Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan, Lincoln and Reedus. Cohan, who negotiated for equal pay with her male counterparts last season, will appear in only six episodes of the next season as she splits her time between the Georgia set and her new action-drama “Whiskey Cavalier” in Los Angeles.
