Seventeen years after Reese Witherspoon taught audiences the joys of the “bend and snap” and how an all-pink outfit is never a bad idea, the actress is heading back to the big screen for “Legally Blonde 3”. The star confirmed the news on Twitter Thursday morning with a rather understated video:

The Oscar winner will return to screens as upbeat lawyer Elle Woods with the original film’s creative team of Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah set to return with a new script which is currently in the works. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports the sequel will focus on female empowerment.

The female-driven “Legally Blonde” and its 2003 sequel “Legally Blonde: Red, White & Blonde” have continued to find new audiences through home release and the successful stage musical that continues to tour across North America. Together, both films have grossed over $260 million on relatively modest budgets.

No word on when production will get underway or when “Legally Blonde 3” is expected to hit theatres.

Witherspoon is currently filming season 2 of the award-winning HBO series “Big Little Lies”, on which she also serves as the executive producer.
