After days of teases on social media, the wait is finally over now that Selena Gomez has released her video for “Back to You”, the new track she recorded for the second season of controversial Netflix drama “13 Reasons Why” (on which she serves as exec producer).
In the video, which appears to be set a few decades in the past, Gomez is sporting a short bob-style hairdo while attending a party — where she spies a tall blonde fellow.

In an apparent dream sequence, Gomez and the guy make a break from the party, exiting via an open window. They jump into a vintage red convertible and drive to a sunny meadow until Gomez sets the car on fire because she doesn’t want to go to jail (don’t worry, it sort of makes sense when you watch).
Along the way, Gomez breaks the fourth wall by addressing viewers directly. “Can you believe this guy?” she asks, prompting him to ask, “Who are you talking to?” Responds Gomez: “The audience.”

In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music’s Beats 1, Gomez discussed “Back to You”, which she wrote specifically for “13 Reasons Why”.
“I want it to be a beautiful message in a really complicated way but really fun,” she explained. “But I think that ‘Back To You’ is more of my special project that I wanted to give to season 2.”
