“Suicide Squad” star Jared Leto is getting his own Joker movie and a little more control.

The actor is set to star in the Warner Bros. “Suicide Squad” spinoff focusing on the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker. Sources told Variety Leto will star in and executive produce the standalone movie.

That bodes well for Leto, 46, who was dissatisfied with the Joker’s involvement in “Suicide Squad” after many of his scenes were reportedly cut from the film.

Warner Bros. is working on more than one movie based on Batman’s greatest rival. Todd Phillips is developing another Joker movie, this time starring Joaquin Phoenix. The studio’s new direction means multiple actors can star as different versions of the same character without overlap.

No word yet on when production may start for Leto’s movie and whether it will be shot before or after the planned “Suicide Squad” sequel, set to go into production in 2019.
