Val Kilmer To Return As Iceman In ‘Top Gun’ Sequel

Few onscreen rivalries were as potent as that between Maverick and Iceman in “Top Gun”, and these high-flying frenemies will butt heads once again in the long-awaited sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick”.

With Tom Cruise set to reprise the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Val Kilmer has signed on to the sequel to portray Iceman (whose actual name is Tom Kazansky), who famously told Maverick in the 1986 blockbuster, “I don’t like you because you’re dangerous.”

News of Kilmer reprising his role shouldn’t be that surprising given a Facebook post he issued way back in 2015, writing that he received an offer to appear in the sequel, writing that it’s “not often you get to say ‘yes’ without reading the script.”

During a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session last year, Kilmer confirmed rumours that he had been battling cancer but is apparently on the mend, telling fans he experienced “a healing.”

Look for “Top Gun: Maverick” to fly into theatres on July 12, 2019.
