George Clooney was honoured by the American Film Institute on Thursday night, and among the many celebrities who turned out to pay tribute was Jimmy Kimmel.
In his remarks, reports People, the late-night host referenced Clooney’s legendary love of pranks.
“George once filled Bill Murray’s suitcase with gravel. He filled Chris O’Donnell’s car with popcorn,” Kimmel reminded the audience as he ran through some of Clooney’s greatest hits.

“But maybe the best prank of all happened when he was back on ‘Roseanne’ and he convinced her to open a Twitter account,” he joked of Clooney’s role on the show during its early years.
Kimmel also recalled an actual prank that Clooney pulled on him. “George told me no one had every swam four laps in his pool without coming up for air and for whatever reason I accepted the challenge,” he said. “Everyone gathered around the pool. I jumped in and I swam the first lap. I swam the second lap. I swam the third lap all under water. I made it to the end and when I came up triumphantly panting for air after setting the official pool record at George Clooney’s house, no one was there. George had escorted everyone back into the house. I celebrated alone.”

Other stars to pay homage to Clooney at the AFI Life Achievement Award gala included Jennifer Aniston, Cate Blanchett, Don Cheadle, Courteney Cox, Julianna Margulies and Bill Murray, who quipped, “It happened to all of us, I’m sure, when we realized that the lifetime achievement award was being given to a 56-year-old man. I know that all of you thought the same thing that I thought: George is dying. It’s fatal. We don’t know what what it is, but it’s progressing very quickly. So this isn’t really a lifetime achievement award, it’s a celebration of life.”
