“Ocean’s 8” has plundered its way into the top spot at the box office, bringing in $41.5 million domestically in its opening weekend.

According to Comscore figures cited by Entertainment Weekly, the all-female reboot of the George Clooney-starring heist film easily dethroned “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, which took in a mere $15.2 million in its third weekend of release and cementing its status as the biggest box-office disappointment from the “Star Wars” franchise to date.

“Ocean’s 8” also topped new arrivals “Hereditary” (with a domestic take of $15 million) and “Hotel Artemis”, which only mustered a $3.2-million opening weekend.

Interestingly, the domestic box office for “Hereditary” nearly doubled estimates, with the buzzed-about horror flick landing the biggest opening ever for indie studio A24.
