Sarah Paulson’s relationship with Holland Taylor has raised eyebrows due to their 32-year age difference, and the “Ocean’s 8” star says she gets it.
However, the 43-year-old actress tells the Sunday Times that any armchair psychologists who theorize that she’s working out “mommy issues” by dating the former “Two and a Half Men” star, 75, are barking up the wrong tree.
“People look at me and Holland and say, ‘Mommy issues,’ but I parent her as much as she parents me, so that’s not it,” explains Paulson.
“I think a lot of people have a stunted way of looking at older people, it’s a way of distancing themselves from something that they think will not happen to them,” she said. “I have the good fortune of being with someone who is older and wiser than I am.”
Recalling when she first met Taylor 12 years ago at a dinner party for an interview with Modern Luxury, she remembers thinking she was “the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”
It wasn’t until a few years later, she revealed, that she and Taylor reconnected, following each other on Twitter, exchanging direct messages and then agreeing to go out to dinner — and have been a couple ever since.
And while some may find their relationship outside the norm, Paulson insisted there’s nothing “strange” about “loving the most spectacular person on the planet.”
As for those who don’t approve: “That’s their problem,” she declared. “I’m doing just fine.”
