In “The Children Act”, Emma Thompson is forced to decide one of the most difficult moral dilemmas imaginable.
The first trailer for the new film shows a glimpse of Thompson playing Fiona Maye, a British judge presiding over a case in which 17-year-old Adam, played by Fionn Whitehead, is refusing a blood transfusion to save his life due to his religious beliefs.
Maye goes to meet with Adam in his hospital room, bringing the emotional and moral ramifications of the case to its most human level.
Based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Ian McEwan, the film is directed by Richard Eyre and also stars Stanley Tucci as Maye’s husband Jack.
“The Children Act” is set for release Sept. 14.
