As fans anticipate the twists and turns that await the Pearson family in the upcoming season of “This Is Us”, one of the show’s stars joins Sangita Patel in the ET Canada studio to talk about season 3.
“I’m absolutely excited,” says Hannah Zeile of the new season.
Zeile, 20, plays the teenage version of Pearson sibling Kate (portrayed by Chrissy Metz in the present), and admits, “I honestly don’t know what’s in store, but I think that makes me even more excited, because I’m just as anxious to know what we’re going to be working on.”
Asked about appearing in one of the season’s most dramatic moments, when she and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) are trapped inside the Pearson home after a faulty Crock Pot starts a fire, Zeile says there were plenty of tears on the set — and not just among the actors.
“I think there was that series of three episodes where it was pretty intense, pretty heart-wrenching material,” she says, “and just one of the many things that I love about my cast and crew is that they’re very respectful. When there’s intense scene work going on like that, it’s pretty silent on set.”
She adds: “It was also beautiful. It kind of brought us all together. I mean, sometimes when we’re filming the stuff, the crew… they’ll be crying watching it. And we’ll be crying in the scene so it kind of bonds us all together as a family and a cast.”
While she and Metz have formed a close bond, Zeile admits that they don’t spend a lot of time discussing how they play their respective versions of Kate.
“That’s what’s so funny is that Chrissy and I, we can laugh together, we have a great time. I love her, but we never discuss the character,” explains Zeile. “It’s not like a conscious choice not to. I think that, I just respect her work so much, she’s been gracious enough to let me have teenage Kate be my own character.”
ET Canada also caught up with grown-up Kate at the Banff World Media Festival; here’s what Metz had to say about the third season of “This Is Us”:
