In the midst of all the drama and controversy surrounding R. Kelly and those sex-cult allegations, it’s easy to forget the scandal-plagued R&B star was once married.
In a blockbuster new interview, his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, is breaking her silence about her ex, opening up about why she left him and looking back to the day she told him it was over.
Speaking with Sister Circle TV, Kelly — who was married to R. Kelly from 1996 to 2009 — discussed the dramatic day she left.
As she explained, she recalls “playing sick” all day. “And I went and I got in the bed, and I was like, ‘What are you gonna do, what are you gonna do?’ And something just said, end it. That was my first answer, end it.”
She remembers going out to the balcony of the hotel in which they were staying. “And I actually climbed up on the balcony and I had one foot propped against the wall, and my other foot, I climbed up on the ledge and I remember looking down,” she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“And it’s almost like God was able to let me see into the future, and I saw my body laying in blood. I saw the ambulance come. I saw housekeeping come out and they were pointing up, and they said, ‘She jumped from up there.’ And then I remember my baby’s voice, going, ‘Why did momma jump?’” she recalled.
She asked God whether she should leave her husband, begging, “I need an answer today — not tomorrow, not in an hour, I need it now.”
According to Kelly, God told her to pick up her laptop and Google “domestic violence,” which led her to an online quiz.
“It was 17 questions, and they ask you, ‘Has your abuser ever done…?’” she explained, crying profusely. “And of the 17, Robert had done 15 to me.”

At another point in the interview, she addresses claims that her ex made about her in his 2013 memoir Soulacoaster.
“Robert, you don’t get to tell my story… You don’t get to tell people that we got divorced because I had a problem with being a stay-at-home mom,” she said.
“We got divorced because I was no longer going to sit and be violated,” she declared. “What he did to me was criminal.”
In another part of the interview, Kelly is asked if she has anything to say to the parent of Joycelyn Savage, who contend that R. Kelly is holding their daughter against her will. See her response below:
