Chris Cornell’s Daughter Honours Late Rocker With Musical Father’s Day Tribute

The 13-year-old daughter of Chris Cornell has a special tribute to offer her dad on Father’s Day, honouring the late Soundgarden frontman with duet performance of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” that she recorded with her father before his death last year.

“Daddy, I love you and miss you so much,” she writes in a heartbreaking Instagram post.

“You were the best father anyone could ask for,” she continues. “Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn’t have any. You believed in me when I didn’t. I miss your love everyday. Recording this song with you was a special and amazing experience I wish I could repeat 100 times over and I know you would too. Happy Father’s Day daddy, nothing compares to you.”

Cornell was found dead in a Detroit hotel room after a Soundgarden show in May 2017, with the medical examiner determining he took his own life at age 52.

However, the singer’s widow, Vicky Cornell, maintains that her husband never would have committed suicide, and believes that prescription medication led him to it.

“I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life,” she stated.

“Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise. Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages,” said her attorney Kirk Pasich, in a statement. “The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions.”
