The King of Pop may be gone but his music will live on in the form of a Broadway musical.
According to Rolling Stone, the estate of the late Michael Jackson has teamed up with Columbia Live Stage to develop a new stage musical inspired by the life of the “Thriller” star.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage will be writing the book, while Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph the show inspired by Jackson’s life and featuring an array of hits from various stages in his career.
A Broadway musical is a natural extension for the Jackson estate, which has already put its stamp of approval behind two Cirque du Soleil shows (“Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” and “Michael Jackson: One”), the 2017 compilation album Scream and two posthumous albums, Michael and Xscape.
The upcoming musical, which has yet to be titled, is planned to debut on the Great White Way in 2020.
