Charles Melton, “Riverdale”’s Reggie, is in hot water after tweets from six years ago have resurfaced.

According to TMZ, some of those tweets include harsh fat-shaming words. “Word of wisdom for the day…if your [sic] fat… don’t look in the mirror,” read one post, while another said, “Don’t tease fat kids, they already have enough on their plates.”

Melton has since released a statement apologizing to fans about his immaturity, “I’m truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologize to anyone I hurt. What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behaviour.”

He added, “I’m striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable.”

Melton’s “Riverdale” co-star Camila Mendes, who previously opened up about her struggle with an eating disorder, also spoke out to say that the actor had called her to apologize.

She told Access, “He was devastated—he felt really sorry about it and he called me personally and, you know, he said, with everything that I stand for, he said ‘I’m really sorry.’

“I know Charles, I know he’s not actually a bad person. And I think it’s a matter of sometimes you tweet something a long time ago and they’re buried in there and they come out, and it sucks, and I do not agree with anything he said or support those statements, but I know that that’s not who he is.”
