Sarah McLachlan is opening up her beautiful home recording studio in Vancouver as part of a brand new charity campaign with Omaze.
But this isn’t just any old tour of McLachlan’s studio, the Canadian singer-songwriter wants to make beautiful music with the lucky winner, writing and recording an original song together.
McLachlan shows off her signature singing chops and sense of humour in the video, proving the “Building A Mystery” singer is open to any genre of music – even rap. Though after watching McLachlan drop a few rhymes, maybe rap shouldn’t be an option.
In addition to recording a song, the day with the “Angel” songstress and animal-lover also includes a private lunch together and the chance to hit the beach and play with her beloved pooch.
All proceeds from the Omaze campaign will go to a cause close to McLachlan’s heart: music education. Funds will go to The Sarah McLachlan School Of Music which provides music instruction for 1,000 underprivileged children in the Vancouver, Surrey and Edmonton areas. The organization teaches not just music, but life skills including problem-solving, self-discipline and critical thinking. McLachlan already covers 100 per cent of the daily administrative operating costs of the school, so all donations will go directly to the students’ education which includes instruments, lessons, healthy snacks, transportation and learning materials.
Earlier this week, McLachlan was honoured with the Global Inspiration Award at the 2018 SOCAN Awards, recognizing her for her work not only as a songwriter, but her impact on music education for youth in Canada through her school.
