Jim Jones is going to need a good lawyer after the rapper landed behind bars on charges of gun and drug possession following a brief police chase.
Jones, 41, was arrested in Coweta County, Georgia, reports the Newnan Times-Herald, where he faces an array of charges, including theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, narcotics possession, marijuana possession and dangerous drugs to be kept in original container.
The incident took place on Wednesday night when an officer with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office spotted Jones’ Mercedes SUV repeatedly drifting into the emergency lane while travelling south on Interstate 85.
According to Chief Deputy James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, when the officer pulled up next to the SUV, “the interior of the car appeared to be filled with smoke and the smell of marijuana was apparent” after the driver of the vehicle, Ana Rajnee Miles, rolled down the window.
As officers exited their vehicle, adds Yarbrough, Miles suddenly “accelerated and led police on a short chase” when the officer pulled in front of the SUV “and was intentionally struck by the driver.”
At that point, Jones, Miles and two other passengers were ordered out of the SUV and told to place their hands on its roof.
Jones — who appears on reality show “Love and Hip Hop New York” — told officers he had asked Miles to pull over, but said she was acting “incoherent,” according to the police report.
A search of the vehicle turned up a backpack containing 23 Oxycodone pills and a loaded Titan .25-calibre pistol, while marijuana was found “scattered” throughout the car; also found in the car was a Ruger SR 9mm handgun (which had been reported stolen) and another backpack, containing Oxycodone, Percocet and THC oil.
“Jones reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana, but denied any of the marijuana found in the car belonged to him,” reports the Times-Herald, adding: “He also denied knowledge of the firearms and advised he has a prescription for the pills, although he didn’t have it with him.”
Miles, 23, was charged with aggravated assault, fleeing/attempting to elude police, theft by receiving stolen property, narcotics possession, marijuana possession, dangerous drugs to be kept in original container, aggressive driving and failure to maintain lane.
TMZ reports that Jones was released on a $7,000 bond.
