UPDATE: Wednesday, Nov. 18 (11:35 p.m. ET) – While rumours were swirling that actresses ranging from Nina Dobrev to Ashley Benson were on the short list for the coveted role of female lead in the Baywatch movie, Deadline is reporting that Alexandra Daddario has landed the role.
San Andreas star Daddario will play Summer, the love interest of Efron’s lifeguard character in the upcoming reboot of The Hoff’s iconic TV series.

Dwayne Johnson will be getting some high-profile help patrolling the beaches of Malibu in the upcoming big-screen reboot of Baywatch: Zac Efron, who’s reportedly in talks to join the flick.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Efron will play a “young rule-flouting hothead”; who teams up with The Rock’s “by-the-book and very serious lifeguard… in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.”;

Production is likely to begin early next year.
While there’s not yet been an official announcement from the film’s studio, Paramount, Johnson has issued a couple of tweets, with Efron replying, indicating his participation may already be a done deal.
