Listen up men of the Marvel cinematic universe, Evangeline Lilly isn’t going to listen to your costume complaints.

“I have been hearing Marvel male superheroes complain about their suits for years,” the Canadian actress tells BackstageOL. “I got into my suit and I was wearing it, working in it, doing my thing, and I was like, ‘[It’s] just not that bad.’ Do I have the most comfortable suit in the MCU or…” she explains, making a point to show off her high-heels, continuing, “…have men not had the life experience of being uncomfortable for the sake of looking good?”

The Marvel men have had a list of complaints about their supersuits over the years, including Paul Bettany (“painful”), Chris Evans (“not comfortable”), Tom Holland (“not the greatest thing”), and Chadwick Boseman (“blazing hot”). But Lilly has zero complaints about her Wasp costume – and zero sympathy – for her fellow male superheroes.

“They’re just like, ‘What is this? This sucks. Why are we… why? Why do I have to go through this?’ Whereas a woman’s like, ‘I don’t know. This is like normal. I wear heels to work. I’m uncomfortable all day. You get used to it. You tune it out,'” she says.

Lilly’s Wasp becomes the first female Marvel character to have her name in the title of the film. The actress asks whether that is something to celebrate given the ladies of the MCU that have come before her.

“Are we making a mountain out of a molehill? Because of course there are incredible female superheroes in the MCU who came before me, their names just weren’t in the title,” she replies. “And yet I think when I get asked the question… this is the 20th Marvel movie and it’s the first film with a female superhero in the title, then it feels reframed in a way that says, no, actually this is a big deal and this is about time.”

Brie Larson will become the first woman to headline a Marvel standalone movie when “Captain Marvel” arrives in theatres in 2019.

“Ant-Man And The Wasp” opens on July 6.
