Hollywood could be getting its first plus-sized superhero movie as Sony Pictures begins development on a film based on Valiant Comics’ Faith Herbert.

According to Deadline, “American Gods” writer Maria Melnik has been tapped to write the script for the movie which will be produced by Toby Jaffe and Neal Moritz along with DMG Entertainment’s Dan Mintz.

The film is part of a deal Sony Pictures made with Valiant in 2015 to bring the publisher’s stable of characters to the big screen. The agreement includes the Vin Diesel-starring “Bloodshot” which is currently in development.

Faith, who is described as a “jubilant” and “optimistic” character, was introduced in 1992 in Valiant’s Harbinger series, a selection of stories about a group of teenage super-powered outcasts.

After losing her parents in a car accident at a young age, Faith finds escapism in comic books, sci-fi movies, and Joss Whedon TV shows. She later develops telekinetic abilities, as well as the power of flight, and goes on to form the Harbinger Resistance which aims to stop powerful mentalist Toyo Harada.

The current comic book series starring Faith is written by Jody Houser and sees the happy-go-lucky sci-fi geek move to Los Angeles and take on a secret life as a journalist.

As of this moment, no details regarding the movie’s plot or casting have been released.

“Faith” marks the latest project to help bring better representation and diversity to superhero movies, following the success of “Black Panther” and “Wonder Woman.”
