Drake took to his Instagram Story to pay an emotional tribute to rapper Smoke Dawg after the Canadian was shot dead in Toronto on Saturday night.
Drake shared a snap of the pair, alongside the caption: “All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating.
“I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.”
Smoke Dawg, who was a member of the Halal Gang, supported Drake on his “Boy Meets World” tour in 2017.
Drake’s post came as officials confirmed that two of the three victims in the Toronto shooting, which happened outside Cube Nightclub at 8 p.m., had passed away. Friends have now announced that one of the victims was Smoke Dawg, Global News reported.
Mayor John Tory has called the attack “gang-related.”
Toronto police and parademics were called to Queen Street West near Peter Street Saturday with reports of gunshots being fired.
A Toronto Paramedic Services spokesperson told Global News at the time that two male victims had been rushed to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries.
A third victim, thought to be in her 30s, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
