Stars Unite For World AIDS Day

From New York City to Melbourne Australia, World AIDS Day celebrations stormed the globe on Saturday. Electro-funk masters Chromeo played to a packed Manhattan crowd that included The Good Wife“s Alan Cumming, and Pretty Little Liars” Shay Mitchell, for (BELVEDERE)RED Night Lights.

Streets were shut down and buildings lit red for the outdoor party, intended to bring awareness to (RED)’s campaign for: “The beginning of the end of AIDS – meaning the virtual elimination of the HIV virus from mothers to their babies and achieving the first AIDS-free generation born by 2015.”;

Across the globe DJ Tiësto and his friends painted Melbourne red, with exclusive sets livestreamed from the Stereosonic Music Festival. “We had 45,000 people dancing in Melbourne and thousands more around the world joining the fight to begin the end of AIDS,”; the electronic producer said of the event. “I saw first hand the passion and energy dance fans can bring to this critical cause, so I urge everyone to stand up, dance and get involved.”;

Tiësto, who also helped the cause by bringing together artists like U2’s Bono, and DJ Diplo for the Dance (RED), Saves Lives album, is going above and beyond for the cause by pledging  to match donations up to $100,000 the (RED) Crowdrise page.

Meanwhile stars like Janet Jackson and Ricky Martin are calling on fans not to forget the ongoing fight at home.  “It’s not over,”; says Janet in a new PSA for amfAR, and reminds us, “more than a million Americans are living with HIV and one and five, don’t even know they are infected.”;

Ricky Martin also throws out a shocking statistic: “Unfortunately 40 per cent of adolescents in the world know how the virus spreads and that is alarming,”; says the singer and spokesperson for MAC Cosmetics. “Only 40 per cent! Yes, we need to talk about this issue.”; MAC is helping Ricky with his mission for awareness by doubling its donations to the MAC AIDS Fund by matching the sale of Viva Glam products.
