Jar Jar Binks is one of the most hated characters in movie history, but many people forget there was a real person under all that CGI.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Ahmed Best, who played the computer animated comic relief in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”, revealed that the backlash to the character nearly led him to commit suicide.
The post, which includes a picture featuring Best and his young son standing on a bridge, says that 19 years ago, “This was the place I almost ended my life.”

While Best doesn’t directly mention the often derided “Star Wars” prequel, he is clearly referencing the film based on the given date.
According to TMZ, Best has previously said he received death threats for his role in the film.
Following his revelation, Best received an avalanche of supportive comments on social media — including one from puppeteer/movie director Frank Oz, known for portraying Yoda in the “Star Wars” films.
The kind tweet from Oz did not go unnoticed by Best, who sent his thanks.
Best also thanked fans for their support, admitting he finds it “overwhelming” and adding, “It means so very much to me.”
