Craig Leydig, the assistant equipment manager for NHL champions the Washington Capitals decided to bring the Cup to the temporary office where journalists for the local news company are working.

Leydig had just finished an interview with The Capital when shots rang out in the company headquarters. Five people were killed in the shooting.

“I turned to my co-workers and told them I just got done doing an interview with a reporter who might be in that building,” Leydig told The Capital. “I was absolutely stunned and extremely upset.”

The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 44-year history last month.
