The 26-year-old model beat 22 other competitors to be crowned Miss Universe Spain and will now represent the country at the world competition in the Philippines later this year.

“Bringing the name and colours of Spain before the universe is my great dream,” Ponce wrote on Instagram after winning the crown. “My goal is to be a spokesperson for a message of inclusion, respect and diversity not only for the LGBTQ+ community but also for the entire world.”
According to The Daily Mail, the Miss Universe competition first began allowing transgender contestants after Canadian model Jenna Talackova sued Miss Universe Canada for discrimination.
