The author behind a recently published book about Stevie Nicks has opened up about the release to Fox News.

Stephen Davis, who wrote “Gold Dust Woman”, is said to have tracked down an array of sources close to the musician, who became a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1975, to write an unauthorized, tell-all novel.

The writer, who previously collaborated with Mick Fleetwood on his 1990 memoir, “Fleetwood”, told the publication of the singer’s sheltered childhood: “Her father was a business executive and they moved all over the Southwest and West Coast when she was growing up. So she would change schools every 2-3 years. And her mother kept her at home.”

He added that Nicks would take classes like ballet, tap dancing and acting, but said she, “mostly stayed home and learned how to play guitar.”

Davis went on to say that Nicks didn’t have a steady boyfriend until she met Lindsey Buckingham, whom she reportedly now still has an ongoing feud with, at 19.

The writer also said that Fleetwood Mac didn’t want to hire Nicks at first. However, Buckingham allegedly insisted at the time: “‘Look, if you want me, you have to take my girlfriend Stevie Nicks. We’re a duo.’ So for the first maybe year or so, Stevie was in a band. She felt that she was only in the group because of her boyfriend.”

The explosive book also reportedly touched upon Nicks and Buckingham’s “abusive” relationship, with the author claiming that the star got rather angry when it came down to getting Nicks to pose topless for the couple’s Buckingham Nicks album cover in the early ’70s.

When Nicks, then 25, didn’t want to strip off, a 24-year-old Buckingham reportedly screamed: “Don’t be a f*****g child. This is art!”

Fox News also claimed Buckingham was physically abusive to Nicks.

ET Canada has contacted Nicks’ rep for further comments.
