Montreal’s Just For Laughs will be highlighted in a new Netflix Comedy Event Series set to debut in 2019.
It’s been said that laughter is the universal language, and Netflix will be putting that adage to the test with the worldwide special that features 47 comedians from 13 different parts of the planet.
Described as “an unprecedented stand-up spectacular,” the still-untitled show will feature each comedian spotlighted in a half-hour special. While some of the material will be recorded at Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival this summer, other performances will be filmed in Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Mumbai, Berlin and Amsterdam.

The series, notes Netflix in its announcement, will feature comedians who are “diverse in style, gender and ethnicity,” and will be taped in seven languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch, German and English).
“Few things are better than discovering a new comedian you love,” said Lisa Nishimura, VP, Original Documentary and Comedy, Netflix. “With this event, we’re creating a true comedy festival experience for our members where they can scour the globe from home to find some of the freshest voices in comedy.”
