Sugarland Talk New Album After 8-Year Hiatus, Collaborating With Taylor Swift

After an eight-year break from the studio, Sugarland is back and “Bigger” than ever.

Country music duo Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles released their sixth studio album “Bigger” last month and just in case fans think time has changed their music or on-stage partnership, Sugarland have hit the road on their “Still The Same” tour.

ET Canada caught up with the pair at their tour stop at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls to talk about their comeback album and one of its stand-out tracks, “Babe” featuring Taylor Swift.

“She was so excited when she heard our recording of the song and wanted to be part of it,” Nettles says of the Swift collab, revealing the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer had more than a few ideas for the track’s music video.

“She was so excited about the recording of it she was like, ‘I have an idea for a video.’ And we were like, ‘Awesome. Let’s do it,'” she says.

“It was the moment I knew she doesn’t sleep is when I looked at the timestamp on my email,” Kristian adds. “And it’s like, ‘I don’t know if you have gotten this far yet, but I have an idea for the treatment of the video.’ An idea? She just wrote the whole thing.”

Sugarland’s new album features a lot of tracks about despair, which, if you ask Nettles, is just part of life. “When you say despair, what you mean is reality,” she says, as Bush adds, “What you mean is what’s outside your window.”

“The world right now, there’s a lot of despair and so we were exploring that,” Nettles explains. “We were exploring what it is to be in the world right now.”
