Green Day’s “American Idiot” is moving swiftly up the UK song charts.
The new interest in the 2004 hit across the pond comes as a result of a concerted effort by protesters voicing their displeasure at U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the country.
As of Tuesday, the protest has been very successful, with the song already reaching No. 1 on Amazon’s UK bestseller list and sitting at No. 18 on Britain’s Official Singles Chart, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The campaign to make “American Idiot” No. 1 has been promoted by a Facebook group, which so far has amassed over 21,000 followers.
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt tweeted his support for a similar campaign back in April when Trump’s visit was announced.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety last month, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong voiced his own opposition to Trump.
“I f***ing hate Donald Trump so much,” he said. “I used to scream I hated George Bush. This one is a little different. This one is bad, it’s like acid gone bad. F***ing LSD and the American Right, man.”
