Today the world has lost a magnificent creature.
On Tuesday, July 10 the World collectively wept for the loss of Zsa Zsa, a dog whose sheer hideousness was only surpassed by her big heart.
The English Bulldog was crowned “World’s Ugliest Dog” at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California several weeks ago. Zsa Zsa’s owner Megan Brainard confirmed she passed peacefully in her sleep Monday night, according to Today.
“I’m still in shock… It’s kind of like when she won [the World’s Ugliest Dog contest]. It’s been two weeks and I still don’t believe it,” said Brainard. “It’s probably going to be the same with her passing.”
“Zsa Zsa was made for the spotlight,” the family said. “She was so photogenic and adaptable to whatever situation or environment she was in! She was going to be an advocate to help end puppy mills. Everyone hug your dogs! Ugly is beautiful!”
The dog, who is named after Hungarian-American actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, was rescued from a puppy mill she spent five years living in.
Reflecting on her passing, Brainard said, “I picked Zsa Zsa up and took her outside and laid her down in the grass. We were all saying our goodbyes and [our 15-month-old daughter] Mareslie went right over and gave her a kiss. It was sweet. She was waving at her.”
Clearly, Zsa Zsa received a champion’s send-off. She was 9-years-old.
