Talk about a short shelf life.
One day after Lot18 and MGM announced the manufacturing of a new line of wine based on “The Handmaid’s Tale”, all of the brand’s products have been removed from their website.
And that is in light of significant backlash, with fans of the dystopian drama calling the show a poor fit for a wine company.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” — originally a novel by acclaimed Canadian author Margaret Atwood — tells the story of a totalitarian government forcing women to reproduce.
A Pinot Noir called Offred, named after Elisabeth Moss’ character on the show, was poorly described as, “It’s useless to resist this seductive and appealing Pinot Noir.” Chances are that description did the brand no favours in the eyes of outraged fans.
Lot18 confirmed to The Vulture they had pulled the line.
