Ahead of his show in Tampa, Fla. on his “Thrill of it All” tour, Sam Smith visited Orlando on Thursday to pay tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub mass shooting.
The singer, a strong advocate for LGBTQ causes, visited the site of Pulse, where in June 2016 a gunman murdered 49 people at the gay club.
Smith shared a photo of the memorial for those killed on Instagram.
“So deeply emotional & heartbreaking,” Smith wrote. “However, proof that there is more love in this world than hate.”

Just went to Pulse nightclub in Orlando to visit the beautiful memorial that has been built. So deeply emotional & heartbreaking. However, proof that there is more love in this world than hate. To all the families and friends of the victims, your loved ones will never be forgotten xx If any of you come to Orlando it’s such an important place to go to and pay your respects. Sending my love to all of you xx 🏳️🌈
