Fans have been hearing for years about the long-in-the-works Queen biopic, with everyone from Sacha Baron Cohen to Russell Brand rumoured to be up for the role of flamboyant frontman Freddie Mercury.
“Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek was ultimately cast in the role, with Bryan Singer (“X-Men”) tapped to direct; Singer, however, was yanked off the movie partway through filming when his frequent absences from the set led to costly production delays. As a result, director Dexter Fletcher (“Eddie the Eagle”) was called upon to complete the film (Singer, however, is still credited as director).
The first full trailer for the film (above) promises plenty of rock-star drama, tracing the band’s meteoric rise from glam-rock wannabes to one of the biggest acts of the 1970s and ’80s.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” will hit theatres on Nov. 2.
Meanwhile, check out Malek discussing what it was like to portray Mercury in this recent interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, airing weeknights at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Global (you can watch full episodes online).
