Shiggy Responds To Allegations Drake Paid Him $250K For Helping ‘In My Feelings’ Hit #1

Drake’s single “In My Feelings” has hit number one – the Toronto rapper’s third track this year to hit that lofty chart position – and Champagne Papi is giving credit where credit is due, by thanking the originator of a new dance challenge that helped propel the song up the charts.

It all started two weeks ago with Internet comedian Shiggy, who shared a video of himself dancing to “In My Feelings” with his 1.4 million Instagram followers. It quickly caused the distinctive dance to go viral, with fans asking “Kiki, do you love me?” from Drake’s lyrics in the hit song and resulted in its own hashtag, #DoTheShiggy.

Before long, Shiggy’s Drake dance became a social media sensation that morphed into a challenge, with numerous people sharing their own attempts at the dance. Even celebrities such as Will Smith, Ciara and DJ Khaled got in on the action.

Meanwhile, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. added a hazardous new twist to the challenge when he shared a video of himself exiting a moving vehicle in order to perform the dance on the street, without bothering to put his car in neutral first.

The football great’s spin on the Shiggy Dance quickly spawned imitators, many of whom demonstrated why jumping out of a moving car is a terrible idea:

Injuries aside, Drake is apparently a big fan of Shiggy’s dance, and let him know firsthand when he recently encountered the comedian at a party in Los Angeles.

“Oh my goodness,” declares Drake when meeting Shiggy in the video below. “Man got me a number one record today. Oh my God!”

Shiggy’s encounter with Drake, however, quickly led some blogs to report that Drizzy paid the comedian a hefty $250,000 for his help in propelling “In My Feelings” to #1.

Shiggy, however, was quick to dispel those rumours in a NSFW YouTube video, insisting that those blogs are “lying. $250,000? What kind of s**t is going on, man?”

He added: “You think [Drake] walking around with a chequebook in the club?”

Despite Shiggy’s denial, YouTube personality DJ Akademiks (who has been described as “hip-hop’s one-man TMZ”) insists he has “official confirmation” that Shiggy did indeed receive a quarter-million dollars from Drake.
