Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Ian McKellen are among those being lined up for a new “Cats” movie, it’s been reported.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hooper is set to direct the upcoming flick, which is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much-loved musical, which itself, is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
The play tells the tale of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles; the movie is expected to follow closely the play’s story, thanks to the show’s huge success.
The stage version is the fourth-longest-running show on Broadway and sixth-longest-running in London’s West End, so it’s no surprise Hooper has quite the cast on board already.
The Daily Mail was the first to report that Hudson would be taking on the lead role of Grizabella.
The actress first made her Broadway debut in “The Color Purple” in 2015 and has since starred in “Dreamgirls” and judged on “The Voice UK”.
Hudson previously told Time Out, when asked about whether or not she was excited about doing Broadway: “Broadway is, and has always been, a dream I’ve had. Back before I got ‘Dreamgirls’, I wanted to play Effie on Broadway. But God always gives you a little more than you asked for, and I ended up in the film.”
