Harry Styles just concluded his massive world tour with two shows in Los Angeles and managed to do a lot of good along the way.
According to NME, Styles raised a whopping $1.2 million for more than 62 local charities through the tour’s “Treat People With Kindness” merchandise sales.
Among the charities to receive funds from Styles’ campaign were Covenant House Toronto, which serves at-risk, homeless and trafficked youth in the city, and Aunt Leah’s Place in Vancouver, which helps support a future for children in foster care.
In a statement to ET Canada, Covenant House Toronto executive director Bruce Rivers said, “Thank you to Harry Styles for selecting Covenant House Toronto as one of the many charities supported through his Treat People With Kindness campaign. We are grateful that he is raising awareness about many important international issues including youth homelessness and sex trafficking right here in Toronto.”
“Aunt Leah’s Place is honoured to be chosen as a recipient charity for Harry Styles’ ‘Treat People with Kindness’ campaign,” Aunt Leah’s Place said in a statement to ET Canada. “Aunt Leah’s Place helps prevent children in foster care from becoming homeless and mothers in need from losing custody of their children. Our vision is to create an environment where all children connected to the foster care system have equal opportunities akin to their parented peers.”
“In addition to the financial donation from Harry Styles, Aunt Leah’s was invited to attend his concert,” the statement continued. “Many of our young women and men from care enjoyed the show and have new appreciation for Harry Styles as a both a performer and a philanthropist.
“Harry is also a change maker. He allowed our staff and participants to have an information table at his concert which was a wonderful opportunity to connect with Harry’s fan base!” Aunt Leah’s Place added. “At that table we had a ‘call to action’, where Harry’s fans were invited to petition local government to increase supports for youth from foster care after they ‘age out’ of care in their late teens. Harry’s fans engaged Aunt Leah’s with kindness and we received over 200 signatures!”
Money from the fundraising effort also went to charities across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. See the full list of “Treat People With Kindness” charities here.
During his tour, Styles also took stands to end gun violence and shun single-use plastics.
