During an appearance on Global‘s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday, Denzel Washington joked about sending “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman to Oxford.
Earlier this year, Boseman, 40, stopped by Colbert, and revealed that Washington had paid to send him to Oxford to study drama and was finally able to thank him at the “Black Panther” premiere.
Colbert got “The Equalizer 2” actor’s side of the story last night.
Washington, 63, didn’t know Boseman at the time he decided to become his benefactor years ago.

“Phylicia Rashad was helping kids and she called me and I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll sponsor whoever’,” Washington says. Boseman called to thank him and Washington replied, “Okay Chad, I want my money back”.
Fast forward to February 2018 when Washington attended the “Black Panther” premiere and Boseman finally got his chance to thank the two-time Oscar winner in real life.
“He said, ‘Oh you know I just want to thank you for paying,’ and I said, ‘Oh yeah that’s why I’m here. I’m not here to see the movie,'” Washington explains.
“Wakanda Forever, but where’s my money?'” he adds.
“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights on Global at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT.
