“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is set to make a long-lasting impact all over again.
Joss Whedon is teaming up with “Midnight, Texas” creator Monica Owusu-Breen for a reboot of the beloved supernatural drama television series.
Moving on with the times, Whedon and Owusu-Breen plan to cast a black woman in the lead role — per an article from Deadline.
The mindset behind the casting is reflected in a statement from the show’s producers, who said, “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”
The original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” aired between 1997 and 2003.
There is no word on who might star in the reboot or when the series will begin production.
