Bobcat Goldthwait has asked Disney to remove his voice from a new theme park attraction following James Gunn’s controversial firing from “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”.
Goldthwait, 56, took to Instagram to post a lengthy statement, in which he also referenced James Woods, saying Gunn hasn’t been the only one to make inappropriate comments in the past.
The director was axed from the upcoming flick after a series of old tweets, including ones that saw him joke about rape and pedophilia, emerged online.
An outspoken critic of Donald Trump, Gunn became the target of extreme right-wing personalities who exposed the tweets from 10 years ago.
Goldthwait then posted a message that read: “Dear @disney, I would hate for you to come off as hypocritical so I’m suggesting that you remove my voice from an attraction that’s coming to your park.
“It’s called WORLD OF COLOR – VILLAINOUS, and I reprise the role of Pain, a role I played in HERCULES. You see here’s the deal, years ago I made a lot of sarcastically shocking and offensive jokes.
“Many that I’m embarrassed about now, and I’d hate to make you guys look bad seeing that I’m openly critical of the president and his administration, and you seem to be taking your lead from some of his radical fringe supporters. I think James Woods may have recorded a voice for this new attraction, too,” he added, before urging Disney to check out some of Woods’ “whacky past tweets.”
The comedian certainly isn’t the only one talking about Gunn’s firing on social media, with the likes of “GOTG” stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana seemingly wading into the debate by posting cryptic messages, despite not naming names.
Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn previously said in a statement to ET: “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studios’ values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
