Children’s entertainers Emma Watkins and Lachlan Gillespie of The Wiggles have announced they’re ending their two-year marriage, breaking the news in a candid Facebook message to fans.
Revealing that they “have been navigating through a trial separation” for the past six months, the couple have decided “to separate as a couple,” but will continue to work together in the wildly popular Australian group.
Insisting that performing together with the Wiggles is “a continued source of joy for us both,” the couple write that they “have embraced this as a very positive change in our relationship.”
Their statement continues: “Our incredible friendship has been strengthened throughout this time and what we have discovered is that, more than ever, first and foremost we love and adore performing as Emma and Lachy in the Wiggles and having the privilege of celebrating this happiness with extraordinary families around the world.
“We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives, but please know that we are stronger than ever and we can’t wait to see you at a show soon. We will not be commenting beyond this, and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy.”
Watkins and Gillespie were married in 2016 in Bowral, Australia, after initially keeping their relationship a secret.
‘We didn’t want people to think we were just doing it for publicity,” Gillespie told blogger Kate Waterhouse of why they waited to make their relationship public. “There is nothing worse if you’ve only just started in a world-class organization such as the Wiggles and then all of a sudden we come out that we are together.”
