Demi Lovato Opens Up For The First Time Since Reported Overdose: ‘I Now Need Time To Heal’

Demi Lovato has issued her first statement since her apparent drug overdose on July 24.

The singer posted her words on Instagram on Sunday, giving fans around the world an update on her health and progress after her time in hospital.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” Lovato began. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

The 25-year-old continued, thanking her fans for their love and support during her difficult week, along with her family and team, as well as the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” Lovato added. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out the other side.”

Well-wishes for Lovato poured in the comments on the post and on Twitter from a number of celebs, including Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez and more.
