Julianne Moore and Ken Watanabe star in the intense new trailer for “Bel Canto”.

The upcoming flick, based on the novel of the same name, follows Moore, a world famous opera singer who travels to South America where she meets government official, Watanabe. While there, the pair attends a party that is soon overtaken by a group of anti-government rebels who take hostages during Moore’s set.

The novel, published in 2001, by Ann Patchett was inspired by the crisis at the Japanese embassy in Peru, which resulted in 17 deaths.

“Bel Canto” will hit limited theatres on Sept. 14 with a wide release on-demand on Sept. 21.
