When the dust had settled after this morning’s 2016 Golden Globes nomination announcements, lesbian drama “Carol”; came out on top, garnering five nominations, including nods for leading ladies Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as well as director Todd Haynes.

Landing in second place this year was the Wall Street docu-comedy “The Big Short”;, Danny Boyle’s biopic “Steve Jobs”; and “The Revenant”;, which each took four nominations.

On the small screen side, Netflix emerged as the big winner, nabbing a total of eight nominations, while several TV shows landed three nominations, including “American Crime”;, “Fargo”;, “Mr. Robot”;, “Outlander”; and “Transparent”;.

In addition, several Canadian productions were recognized with nominations, including “Room”; and “Brooklyn”; (both Irish-Canadian co-productions).

Canadian streaming service shomi also had a lot to celebrate, with seven of its series receiving nominations: “Blunt Talk”;, which debuts on shomi on Dec. 30 (with star Patrick Stewart nominated for best actor in a TV comedy); “Empire”; (an acting nom for star Taraji P. Henson and another for Best TV Series, Drama); a Best Actress, Comedy, nod for “Jane the Virgin”; star Gina Rodriguez; three noms for “Mr. Robot”; (Best TV Series, Drama as well as Best Actor and Supporting Actor noms for Rami Malek and Christian Slater); two noms for “Mozart in the Jungle”; (Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical and Best Actor, Comedy for Gael Garcia Bernal); three nominations for “Outlander”; (Best TV Series, Drama, and acting noms for Catriona Balfour and Tobias Menzies); and three nominations for “Transparent”; —Best TV Series, Comedy, Best Actor, Comedy for Jeffery Tambor and Best Supporting Actress, Comedy, for Judith Light.
