Nicki Minaj surprised fans on Thursday when she announced that her new album Queen would drop today (Friday, Aug. 10) at noon EST/9AM PST, one week ahead of schedule, and now the record is finally here!
The rollout of the “Chun-Li” rapper’s fourth studio album has been a bumpy ride, initially slated for a June release, the record was pushed back to Aug. 10, and then just last week was delayed again, due to a Tracy Chapman sample-clearance issue, and rescheduled for Aug. 17.
But on Thursday night, during the premiere of her new “Queen Radio” show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Minaj had some good news for her fans. The Grammy-nominated artist revealed that Queen would, in fact, be released Friday.
The album, which features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Eminem, Ariana Grande, Future, and the Weeknd, hit streaming services at midday Friday. You can listen to the record below on Apple Music:
Minaj actually wanted to debut the new album in its entirety on her radio show on Thursday but was faced with complications. “I was gonna play the album right now but someone f***ed up,” she said during the stream, as reported by Spin. “It’s a lot of corporate drama in here.”
She went on to state that she’d completed the album just three hours before going live on air. Minaj returned to Beats 1 on Friday, one hour before the album dropped, to play Queen in full, walking listeners through each track and sharing her insight into the making of the record.
Queen is Minaj’s first album since 2014’s platinum-selling record “The Pinkprint” and includes previously released singles, “Barbie Tingz”, “Chun-Li”, and the Ariana Grande-featuring “Bed”.
