Nina Dobrev is talking all about her mini “Degrassi” reunion in Drake’s “I’m Upset” music video, which was shot this past June in Toronto.
Speaking with ET Canada’s Keshia Chante in promotion of her new comedy-drama “Dog Days” with her co-star Tone Bell, the 29-year-old Toronto-raised actress discusses reuniting with the “Degrassi: The Next Generation” cast.
“It was so fun to be home,” Dobrev says of her quick return to Toronto. “It was so nice to go back to the city and [Drake] has turned the city into such a hot spot for the world and put it on the map.”
Addressing the video, which was filmed on the same Degrassi High set as the hit Canadian teen drama, she adds, “Getting back into our own stomping ground and running the halls was really special and really cool.”
When it came to reuniting the show’s former stars, including Shane Kippel, Stacey Farber, Jake Epstein and A.J. Saudin, Dobrev says, “It was a no-brainer, of course. I think everybody was stoked to get back together and see everyone.”
Meanwhile, Dobrev had the opportunity to bring a piece of her home onto the set of the film “Dog Days”, which features a cameo from her own pup, Maverick. “She is amazing,” the actress says, adding that when it comes to her own relationships she “doesn’t trust people who don’t like dogs.”
For Dobrev and co-star Bell, however, the pair have bonded over their common love of canines. “He’s an uncle to my [Maverick],” Dobrev says.
Speaking about taking on a romantic role on-screen, Bell, best known for his work as a standup comedian, adds, “It’s the first time I got a chance to do that outside of the sitcom world, but I think I was ready for it. I was excited to do it and by the time we got going in filming, it was very comfortable.”
Dobrev and Bell will reunite in the upcoming sitcom television series, “Fam”.
