‘Star Trek 4’ Negotiations With Chris Pine And Chris Hemsworth Break Down Over Money

Do not be surprised if Captain Kirk is absent from the next “Star Trek” major motion picture.

Captain Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth — who plays Kirk’s father in a time-travelling adventure — are said to have walked away from negotiations over pay cuts, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

Both actors were set to reprise their roles in “Star Trek 4”, but sources say the actors believe Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media are trying to renege on existing deals.

The studios reportedly argue the property is not as valuable as Marvel or “Star Wars” flicks and that their A-listers should not expect the same sort of compensation.

As far as Pine and Hemsworth’s teams are concerned, however, they should not have to renegotiate less money just because the franchise is not performing as well as originally expected.

“Star Trek Beyond” grossed $343 million against a $190 million budget, but one source told THR the companies lost money on the venture.

Negotiations with other returning cast members including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho are expected to soon take place.
