2018 Emmys Hosts Colin Jost And Michael Che Do Not Plan On Being Too Political

Global’s “Saturday Night Live” “Weekend Update” hosts are looking forward to a change of pace at this year’s Emmy Awards.

The comedy duo plan on cracking chokes as usual, but putting less focus on politics when they co-host this year’s awards show.

“It is kind of fun for us to do something that is not political,” Jost tells Vanity Fair. “The exciting part is to do things about television and that particular awards ceremony and make it, in general, less political than normal. There’s a lot to celebrate in television right now. It’s a very strong time.”

But he kept a sense of humour about the whole thing: “I think that by [the Emmys], people are going to be desperate to give men a chance, finally. It’ll probably be #HeToo by then.”

When asked who the hosts are rooting for on Emmys night, Che chimed in, “Roseanne.” Jost quipped, “but just the politics. I don’t like the comedy; I only like the politics.”

This year’s ceremony takes place on Sept. 17.
