Taraji P. Henson is delving deep into the mind of the male species in the first look trailer for “What Men Want”, a gender-swapped remake of the Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt starring “What Women Want”.
The “Hidden Figures” star plays a sports agent working in a male-driven field who is overlooked for promotion due to her gender. But after visiting a mysterious woman – played by Erykah Badu – and drinking some strange tea, Henson’s character, Ali, gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts.

As seen in the trailer, Ali is subjected to the puerile and often misogynistic inner thoughts of the men around her, but she also uses her newfound power to her advantage. The skill comes in particularly useful during a poker game with Shaq, who apparently thinks in third-person.
“What Men Want” is directed by Adam Shankman (“Hairspray) and is a gender-flip on the Nancy Meyer movie from 2000 in which Gibson is able to hear women’s thoughts which helps him develop a romance with his co-worker, played by Hunt. The remake takes that premise, but judging from the trailer, seems to be leaning more towards comedy than romance.

The movie also stars Tracy Morgan, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, and Max Greenfield, and is produced by Will Packer (“Girl’s Trip”).
