For most people, vacationing in the south of France would be a dream come true. For Tracee Ellis Ross, however, the experience turned out to be more like a bad dream.

During a Tuesday night appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, the “Black-ish” star revealed her vacation with a group of friends didn’t go as planned.

This became apparent when they first arrived to discover the charming villa they had rented to be swarmed by flies, brought on by hot weather and a recent rainfall.

“You guys, there were so many flies you couldn’t sit in the house without sitting under a fan or two,” she told the “JKL!” audience.

In fact, it was so hot that she wound up sleeping with two fans and strategically placed icepacks, which led her to wake up with a sore throat.

Meanwhile, the house they had rented was a mile away from the nearest town – uphill – and none of the vacationers had a car or bicycle. With the extreme heat making a trip to town feel like an endurance test, they understandably didn’t make the trek that often.

“So literally we were, like, rationing food,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Only buy what you can carry.’ We had one bottle of rose [wine], and I drank the one bottle of rose for five days.”

However, there was a silver lining; on her way home, the 45-year-old actress discovered she’d been nominated for an Emmy – although when she shared the happy news with her friends, “no one cared.”
