Cardi B is proud of how far she has come as an artist and she won’t let anyone tell her otherwise.
The 25-year-old rapper was compelled to defend herself after someone on Instagram questioned the legitimacy of her career.
“Let me tell you something. When I first signed to Atlantic, I was convinced I was going to blow up quickly,” she replied. “I put out ‘Lick’ and I didn’t get the results I wanted. I was going to Atlantic with a tantrum like ‘why [is] my song not getting airplay. Why [is] my record not doing good?’ And they couldn’t help me.”
“I was discouraged as f**k!” she continued. “I’m thankful for ‘Bodak Yellow’ because it had people and even the label believe in me. You can’t buy the general public. No machine, no money can buy that! Having stadiums sing out your s**t, you can’t buy that! Having artists listening to your music and supporting you, you can’t buy that!”
She concluded by telling her critic, “I’m sick and tired of people trying to discredit me. I will not let anybody try to play me or make me feel like I didn’t earn my f**king success.”
It is believed the comment about Cardi was prompted by a statement Nicki Minaj recently made:
It was announced Wednesday that Cardi would perform at her first live event since giving birth last month at Monday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
